Mahendra Prasad Biswal retired from the Dept. of Mathematics, IIT Kharagpur as a Professor - HAG. Prof. Biswal took the responsibility of Head of Dept. Of Mathematics at IIT Kharagpur during 2016-2019. He paid visits foreign universities as a Visiting Faculty at Dept. of Systems Engg. and Engg. Management, Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1996, 2000, and 2013, and then Visiting Faculty at Dept. of Computer Science, Christian-Albrechts-Universitat zu Kiel, 24118 Kiel, Germany in 2019. He pursued his B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. in Mathematics from the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar in 1979 and 1981, respectively. He completed his Ph.D. in Mathematics from IIT Kharagpur 1987 in the area of Optimization - Geometric Programming. After working there at a Research Associate, he joined the Dept. Of Mathematics at IIT Kharagpur as a Lecturer. His research area of interests are Operations Research & Decision Models, Computational Statistics & Stochastic Programming, Fuzzy and Convex Optimization, Game Theory and Applications, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), Interior Point Methods (IPM), Multi-Objective, Multi-Level & Multi-Choice Programming, Planning and Scheduling Uncertain Problems, Optimization in Data Science, Robust Optimization & Applications, Mathematics and Statistics for Machine Learning. During his 65 years of teaching experience, he had been teaching different UG (B. Tech. & B.Sc.) and PG (M.Sc. & Ph.D.) courses such as Engineering Mathematics-I, II,III, & IV, Operations Research, Linear Programming and Game Theory, Non-linear Programming, Multi-objective Programming, Probability and Statistics, Statistical Methods, Statistical Inference, Computer Programming, Multi-objective Programming, Engineering Optimization, Optimization Techniques, etc. His research publications reach more than 2000 citations with H-index 24 in reputable journals along with publications in more than 100 international conference proceedings. 14 research scholars completed Ph.D. under his supervision. He is a life member of Indian Society of Theoretical and Applied Mathematics, Operational Research Society of India, and International Society on Multi Criteria Decision Making, USA. Prof. Biswal is also a member of Editorial Board of journals such as OPSEARCH Applied Mathematics and Computation and OPSEARCH European Journal of Operational Research.
